Envelope Manager Software/Microsoft Partnership FAQ's

What is the purpose of the Partnership?

To develop a spectrum of mailing software products that can be used by small businesses - primarily the market served by Microsoft Office 97, Small Business Edition. Microsoft found that many of the small businesses were interested in direct mailings, but found the process cumbersome or confusing. As the initial partnership offering, Microsoft and Envelope Manager have joined forces to offer this market a very easy to use direct mailing solution: Direct Mail Manager (bundled with Office 97, Small Business Edition, version 2) and DAZzle Express.

Why did Microsoft choose to work with Envelope Manager Software?

Microsoft was looking for a partner who could provide them advanced technology in the mailing software arena, a longstanding expertise with USPS rules and regulations, and the ability to create a "turnkey" direct mailing application for Office 97, Small Business Edition. In particular, Microsoft saw our patented Dial-A-ZIP technology and PAVE engine from Envelope Manager as critical components to the new software.

What are the New Products?

DAZzle Express (from Envelope Manager Software)

DAZzle Express is a very easy-to-use CASS and PAVE certified, discount (bulk) mailing application. It uses a wizard-like interface to walk you step-by-step through the bulk mailing process. It also uses that latest in Internet technology to smooth the mandatory address verification process and notify you of any updates to the software (or changes in Postal Regulations!).

Direct Mail Manager (from Microsoft)

Direct Mail Manager, part of Office 97, Small Business Edition version 2, is Microsoft’s equivalent of DAZzle Express. Direct Mail Manager is a "sister" application to DAZzle Express and is very similar in all respects but only support mailing lists up to 3500 names, only support Standard mail and has limited design and printing options.

How is DAZzle Express different than Direct Mail Manager?

DAZzle Express is a (big) sister application to Direct Mail Manager (DMM) - it is not a replacement for DMM, but is very similar. The differences can be summarized as:

Features in DE (and not in DMM) Features in DMM (and not in DE)
Unlimited List Size (DMM is limited to 3500) List Broker Service
First Class PAVE support Mailing Services other than NeopostExpress
Non-Profit Rates
Enhanced Carrier Route Sorting
Enhanced Mailpiece Design (with DAZzle)

Both programs can (and should) co-exist - DAZzle Express is NOT a replacement for Direct Mail Manager. However, the customer must have Direct Mail Manager to install DAZzle Express.

How does the partnership effect the current Envelope Manager Products?

Envelope Manager Software still continues to sell and support the same line of products, with the addition of DAZzle Express. DAZzle Express is designed to fill that gap between DAZzle Plus (which does not have any sorting features) and the powerful Envelope Manager. See the comparisons below for more details

Should I buy DAZzle Express or Envelope Manager?

Envelope Manager is still a much more powerful mailing application and much more appropriate for the serious mailer. Envelope Manager supports many more PAVE options (flats, LOT sorting, etc), many more list management features and many other enhanced features (e.g. Internet FastForward, high speed printer support). DAZzle Express is designed for the occasional bulk mailing by those who will maintain their mailing list with another application. In simple terms:

Should I buy DAZzle Express or DAZzle Plus?

Although there are many overlaps (since DAZzle Plus is included with DAZzle Express) the key difference is the PAVE sorting feature. If you are interested in PAVE sorting, but do not need the power of Envelope Manager, then DAZzle Express is the logical choice. If you do not need PAVE certified sorting, just simple day-to-day mailing needs the DAZzle Plus is the best option.
