How do I set up High Speed printing on the 16-bit version?
Envelope Manager supports several High Speed envelope printers for high-volume mailers. Printing with these printers works very differently from other printers. They only print the address and bar code--no return address, postage indicia, graphic, rubber stamp, etc. Except for choosing a printer, this method does not use your DAZzle layout.
- Make sure you have a Generic/Text Only printer defined in your Windows.
- If you have Windows 95, rename the TTY.DRV file currently in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory to TTYWIN95.DRV. Replace it with a copy of the TTY.DRV file from a Windows 3.1 PC or from Envelope Manager Technical Support.
- In Envelope Manager, go to File|Preferences. Choose the High Speed Printing tab. Choose Enable high speed printing, then choose your printer. Choose a position for your Delivery Point Bar code. For Carrier Route, choose None Printed.
Important: If you are doing a carrier route mailing, use the Optional Endorsement Line feature. Its carrier route endorsements are more accurate and current than the options listed here, and they will work for high speed printing.
- Choose OK. If you are running Windows 95, you will see an error about the Generic/Text Only printer driver. Ignore it unless you have not already replaced the TTY.DRV file in step 2 above.
- Choose Edit|Edit or Create Layout to go to DAZzle. Once there, go to File|Printer Setup and choose Generic/Text Only as your printer. The layout and other DAZzle settings don’t matter for high speed printing. Exit DAZzle and save your changes if prompted.
- Adjust the controls on the printer itself to position the address properly on the envelope.
- Choose File|Print|Many Addresses and specify a range as usual. If you are not doing this on a database that is already in presort order, choose File|Print|Many Addresses - Presort Order.
- Repeat steps 3-7 for your next high speed printing job.
